Nigerian music lords, Ayodeji “Wizkid” Balogun and Damini “Burna Boy” Ogulu are once again favourite to win the well contested Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards 2021 in the category they are nominated. They have been put in the Best International Act alongside top music acts like Diamond Platnumz (Tanzania), Headie One (UK), Youssoupha (France) and a few others.

Wizkid and Burna Boy are no strangers to being nominated for the BET Awards, as they have both won the honours in 2012 and 2017 (for Wizkid) and 2019 and 2020 (for Burna Boy), a joint record for the most wins by an African act nominated for the Best International Act at the BET Awards while Wizkid edges Burna Boy for the most overall wins – three (3) – in total, including 2020’s win for the BET Her Awards for being featured on “Black Skin Girl”, making Wizkid the record holder for most wins by an African act nominated for the event.

The BET Awards is set to air live on Sunday June 28th at the Microsoft Theatre, Los Angeles, California, United States of America. This will be its 21st edition.

Despite 2020 heavily being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Wizkid’s Made In Lagos and Burna Boy’s Twice As Tall were released, with the latter earning him the Grammys for “Best Global Album” while Wizkid’s involvement on Beyoncé’s “Black Skin Girl” was enough for the “Best Music Video” at the same Grammys award. Their albums also topped many charts across the globe, creating numerous records along the line.
