MAN CITY SIT OUT OPENING WEEKEND

Because of their European commitments this month, Manchester City’s Premier League season will begin against Wolves on September 19.

That’s a full week after opening day, and means City will play just two league games in September, the trip to Molineux followed by a home game against Leicester City.

An away date at Leeds will take place at the start of October before the international break, meaning that City will have only played three times in the league before the clash with Arsenal on October 17.

City’s meetings with champions Liverpool are currently scheduled for November 7 and February 6.

WHEN CAN FANS RETURN?

Sky Sports News’ chief reporter Bryan Swanson:

“The Premier League has said it’s committed to getting fans back inside stadiums as soon as possible but safety remains their priority. This is one for the government. They have the final say on when stadiums can open again. Talks are continuing but there is no fixed date for fans to return to ground as it’s too fluid and uncertain. Government officials told me they want to wait to see how some pilot events go. They are working towards some sort of phased return for fans from October 1 but there is a long wait as far as clubs are concerned. Everyone wants it to happen but crucially it has to be safe.”09:18

DELAYED START FOR MAN UNITED

Manchester United will sit out the opening weekend of the new Premier League season – before facing a tough run of fixtures through September and October.

Following United’s prolonged run in the Europa League, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will sit out the opening round of the new campaign.

With their trip to Burnley postponed, United will instead start the season against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on the weekend of September 19.

After then visiting Brighton, United face a tricky set of games.

A meeting with Tottenham will be followed by a visit to Newcastle and then games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton.

‘GETTING THAT BALANCE RIGHT’

Sky Sports News’ chief reporter Bryan Swanson:

“For the Premier League it’s all about getting the balance right. Giving the clubs and players some break but trying to do what they can to assure that the impact of the coronavirus pandemic hits too hard on next season. It’s no surprise to see Manchester United and City’s game delayed by a week due to their involvement in Europe. Chelsea and Wolves play a couple of days later.”09:11

LIVERPOOL BEGIN TITLE DEFENCE BY HOSTING LEEDS

Champions Liverpool will host newly-promoted Leeds on the opening weekend of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side, who won the 2019/20 title by 18 points, welcome Leeds back to the Premier League after their 16-year absence on the weekend of September 12, before going to Chelsea on the weekend of September 19.

Liverpool then host Arsenal on September 26, then go to Aston Villa on October 3.

That’s followed by the first Merseyside derby of the campaign on October 17 at Goodison Park, following the international break. The return Merseyside derby at Anfield is scheduled for February 20.

The Premier League have said that clubs playing in Europe would be given a minimum 30-day rest period in light of their involvements in the Champions League and Europa League. Here’s when the four teams in question played:

  • Wolves: August 11
  • Chelsea: August 8
  • Man City: August 15
  • Man Utd: August 16

PREMIER LEAGUE WINNER?

Manchester City, despite being swatted aside by Liverpool last season, are once again favourites for the title at Evens with Sky Bet. Jurgen Klopp’s men are 13/8 to go back-to-back and Manchester United are next in at 8/1.

FULL ODDS HERE!08:14

WHAT’S NEW FOR NEXT SEASON?

  • After adopting five substitutes in the Premier League, and nine players on the bench, after the coronavirus restart in 2019/20 because of the sheer number of games, it’s back to normal for the new season after clubs voted in favour of scrapping the new rule at their AGM on August 6.
  • The VAR referee review area – the screen at the side of the pitch which often drew criticism for its lack of use last season – will be used more for subjective decisions over goals, red cards and penalties.
  • Wolves fans will like this one. Any part of player’s body that is on the ground when a penalty kick is taken will be classed as encroachment. So if any part of the foot is on the penalty area or arc line, it will be seen to be encroaching. The player must still have a material impact on the outcome of the kick.

My teammates don’t pass me the ball- Aguero

Published

on

Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero, left the pitch miserable about his partners’ hesitance to pass the ball to him, during the last phases of their success against Borussia Monchengladbach in the champions league.

Aguero substituted Bernardo Silva in the 75th moment, with Pep Guardiola’s side previously driving 4-0 on total.

Be that as it may, the 32-year-old didn’t enroll a single shot on goal in a short time on the pitch. ESPN reports that Aguero communicated his disappointment to a mentor following the full-time whistle, saying: “No me pasan la pelota” which means “They don’t pass me the ball.”

It is accepted that Riyad Mahrez was the primary offender, as he selected to shoot whenever gave risks in and around the box in the closing targets.

The Algerian, who has been in productive structure, couldn’t track down the back of the net however, with his shots either askew or saved by Gladbach goalkeeper, Yann Sommer. Aguero has in the previous week been connected with a free transfer to Barcelona this mid year, with his agreement at City terminating toward the finish of the period.

“We have other players who can play.”
