‘Onyeka Baby’ by Burna Boy is No. 15 on JAY-Z Top 40 Songs of 2020
Rapper and mogul, Shawn Carter, called JAY-Z aka Hov professionally, released his annual playlist on his streaming platform – Tidal – which gives fans and users of the platform an insight to the type of music Hov has been listening to year-round and Nigeria’s finest, Burna Boy makes it to number 15 on the list with the sixth track off his 2020 “Twice As Tall” album – ‘Onyeka Baby’.
In a list predominated by Hip-Hop/Rap songs as one might easily guess, Burna Boy’s song found a way to finesse its way to the Top 15 tracks. Burna Boy’s assisted ‘Jerusalema’ also makes it on the list at number 16, just below ‘Onyeka Baby’.
Other top songs of the year to make it on the list include: ‘We Paid’ by Lil Baby and 42 Dugg; ‘Black Parade’ by wifey and Queen Bee – Beyoncé; posthumous recognition of Pop Smoke’s ‘ Christopher Walking’; ‘Snowchild’ by Ths Weekend and JAY-Z’s own song with Jay Electronica off their joint 2020 album “A Written Testimony” – ‘Universal Soldier’ – at number 1.

Mavin Records newly signed artiste has taken 2021 by storm with her debut EP — Arya Starr — which in a short amount of time and maybe unexpectedly is already the number on Nigerian Apple Music ‘Top Albums’.
Arya Starr will become the second female since Tems and first of 2021 to top the Apple Music NG album charts; Tems topped the chart with ‘For Broken Ears’ EP. Arya Starr also seems to draw a lot of comparisons to Tems, fans and listeners cite sound, genre of music (and for some, looks) as factors for such comparisons.
Arya Starr dispositions “Made In Lagos” which has been atop the Apple Music charts for Nigerian albums for more three weeks now.
Ginger by Wizkid and Burna Boy peaks at the top spot of UK Afrobeat Charts while Essence by Wizkid and Tems moves to the second spot.
Ginger previously peaked at No. 2 while Essence at No. 3 on the charts but it was projected for the collaborative effort between two of Nigeria’s finest exporters of music to eventually become number one someday.
Ginger displaces Yxng Bane featuring D-Block Europe “Cut Me Off” from the No. 1 position, moving two spaces to become this week’s No. 1 song on the UK Afrobeat Charts. Both Ginger and Essence are both featured on Wizkid’s October released ‘Made In Lagos’.
