2020 breakout music star from Nigeria, Stanley Omah Didia, better known professionally as Omah Lay granted an interview with American magazine – Teen Vogue – speaking on music, life and the #EndSARS protest which took the country by storm last year.

Omah who got his mainstream breakthrough with his debut project, an EP with the title – “Get Layd” – revealed he was not too sure on how much people would gravitate towards his style of music which he tags “Omah Lay Music”. When asked if he had any fears about his debut EP, he told Teen Vogue: “Actually before I put out Get Layd I wasn’t sure if it’ll be accepted. I wasn’t so confident about it but I enjoyed making the project.” but said he put it out nonetheless because he liked what he created and those around him were supportive and also enjoyed his music.

Speaking on why he chose to use his social media as a voice for help during the massive #EndSARS protest against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), he revealed he had had three different tormenting encounters with the SARS force; one back at Porth Harcourt and the remaining two in Lagos, one of which he barely survived because some people recognised his face because of his music.

He added he his still very much devastated from the October 20, 2020 Lekki Massacre, “ I honestly can’t say I’ve gotten over the #LekkiMassacare and I don’t [think] I’ll ever get over it. I still dream about it, write lyrics about it”, Omah Lay discloses.

Omah Lay who also happen to be a music producer, with production credits on his own personal songs — “Bad Influence”, “Confessions”, “Damn” — and a few others, shockingly reveals: “I’ve been a producer for a very long time. I was actually a rapper, then I switched to being a music producer and I did just that for about three years.”

While sadly admitting, nowadays he barely has anytime to produce his own personal music, talk more of producing for others. Stating his primary focus right now is own making his album which is to be released in 2021 (but no date is set yet).
