Master KG says he didn’t teach Burna Boy how to speak Zulu for ‘Jerusalema’

Published

on

South African music superstar, Master KG in an interview with Nigerian news agency, Punch Nigeria, talks about the recording process for the smash hit single – Jerusalema remix – with Burna Boy.

He told Punch Nigeria that Burna Boy was not paid to feature on Jerusalema remix, according to him, Burna Boy was already aware of the original version of the song and liked it, so it was easy to reach out to him for a feature.

Master KG says: “I did not pay Burna Boy to feature on the song, Jerusalema . . . According to what I heard, the song was one of his favourite songs as well. It was so easy to make it work and make the collaboration a success. So, there was no payment for the feature . . . It was not something he did for money instead he did it because it comes from his heart.”

He also revealed Burna Boy did not seek his assistance in learning how to speak Zulu language nor how to pronounce the words, in fact, Burna Boy had sent the song to him before he realised Burna Boy actually spoke his (Master KG’s) language on the track.

Speaking to Punch Nigeria, he says: “I remember the first time I heard his verse, he sang in Zulu language and I was shocked. I asked him where he learnt the Zulu language from but he just said, ‘don’t worry about that. How do you feel about the song?’ It was amazing. A lot of people think that he asked me how to pronounce the words but he never did that.” He also added he chose to work with the “African Giant” because “Burna Boy is one of the best in Africa.”
