For Onakoya Seguntuyi, creating is not what you wake up and start doing, it’s must be a major part of you, your persona, a major factor in how you process your thought, those were the opening remark of Seguntuyi, creative director of House of Tuyi on a gloomy afternoon, in a restaurant in Lagos the, commercial capital of Nigeria, he was trying to teach an upstart via a phone call on why it’s not just about sewing nice clothes while I look on, learning while preparing for my discussion with him.Two years before House of Tuyi, Segun has being skimming, following Kim Jones, late Virgil Abloh, Lisa Folawiyo closely, he was like I spend all my time following Paris fashion week to perusing Hiesnobiety, just to expand my scope with street fashion, while I was studying what Orange culture was doing, I wanted to build a brand that sews high-end exclusive street inspired cloth without losing touch with my targeted audience, it can’t be too high end nor look like a street wear, then I decided to start House of Tuyi in 2019, made lots of mistake along the way, pivoted from different business model until I got a suitable one and we have being growing since then.

I queried further, asides making cloths what challenges did he face, he laughed out loud then continued “Omo I won’t lie, I used to think it was all fashion until I realized that even fashion is a business so I had to level up with the business side of things, learnt editing also, but here we are growing”Onakoya Seguntuyi is a graduated of Agricultural economics and extension from Joseph Ayo Babalola University.
