“I woke up really sad and depressed over the state of Nigeria” — Williams Uchemba

Published

on

Fresh off the bachelor scene and still in honeymoon mood, Williams Uchemba who is currently on his honeymoon tour with his beautifully wedded wife in South Africa took to his instagram page to lament over the current state of Nigeria over her fellow African counterpart in South Africa over a length and thought-provoking post.

Williams Uchemba started off his write-up by admitting he has lived in the US and UK, so comparing the state of affairs between Nigeria and those countries from well advanced continents would be a far-fetch but when it comes comes to South Africa and Nigeria, the state of affairs and how things are run should not be a wide goose chase to say the least.

He shares his pain: “I woke up sad and depressed over the state of Nigeria.” Saying if he travels over to a “white man’s” country, he uses that as a means to justify his depression over Nigeria, afterall they are well advanced and better in all aspects when compared to his fatherland.

But when it comes to intercontinental affairs, Nigeria is still lagging behind by a mile, he continues his lamentations: “Do you know that Nigeria has the largest Economy in Africa with the GDP of $398 Billion compared to SA which is the second largest with $368 billion? Yet Nigeria needs to apply for visa to travel to South Africa.”

After giving candid explanations for his lamentations, using Nigeria’s economy, government and corruption level as yardsticks for his comparison, he sadly admits: “You might not understand how Nigerians are suffering until you travel to other advanced countries then come back home and see how Nigerians have been deprived of basic life amenities of life.”

Ending off his colossal write-up, he asks rhetorically: “apart from bad Leadership Structure and lack of Vision, what do you think is our problem as a nation? Do you think we got independence way too early? Do you think that the democratic system of government is working in Nigeria and for Nigerians? There is corruption in other countries, why is Nigeria’s corruption so different and profound that even corrupt nations call us corrupt?? What do you think is the issue with Nigeria??”

A week later, Laycon has come out to tell the world why he chose to perform in those shoes.

Laycon who performed with DJ Neptune to the tunes of their hit single—‘Nobody’— wore a black round-neck vest to go with a matching glittering jacket and pant, topping the clothing with an all-white sneakers, a gigantic one at that, drawing comparison to the massive footwears Nephilims like Goliath wore back in the Biblical times.

On what looked to be an Open-Mic performance, Laycon addressed the audience on why he wore such “oversized” pair of shoes to an event as grand as The Headies. Laycon said: “I told my stylist ‘I have different shoes but I want this one, it’s very big, it makes a statement.’ Every step I take is a big step towards wherever it is I’m going to and I need a big shoe for that.” He adds: “And it is also create a path for other people to follow, to know that the moves this guy has made, the can make those moves and also be successful.”

This however did not go down well with fans as they have tagged this as flimsy excuses and weak PR attempt at redeeming something inconsequential. Others just reacted with laughing emojis, treating the words of Laycon on the video as joke.
