Genevieve Nnaji, Akin Omotoso And Cynthia Erivo Named Members Of ‘The Academy’

On Wednesday July 1, the Academy of Motion Picture, Arts and Sciences released its list of new members, with 819 invitees, including Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji, Nigerian film director Akin Omotoso, and British-Nigerian actress/singer Cynthia Erivo.

“The Academy is delighted to welcome these distinguished fellow travellers in the motion picture arts and sciences. We have always embraced extraordinary talent that reflects the rich variety of our global film community, and never more so than now,” said Academy president David Rubin said in a statement.

Next on the Academy’s agenda is Aperture 2025 to advance inclusion and representation in membership and the film community.

Academy CEO Dawn Hudson added: “We take great pride in the strides we have made in exceeding our initial inclusion goals set back in 2016, but acknowledge the road ahead is a long one. We are committed to staying the course. I cannot give enough thanks to all our members and staff who worked on the A2020 initiative and to our head of Member Relations and Awards, Lorenza Muñoz, for her leadership and passion in guiding us through to this point and helping to set the path going forward. We look forward to continuing to foster an Academy that reflects the world around us in our membership, our programs, our new Museum, and in our awards.”

Other notable mentions include Ladj Ly, Bernie Taupin, Matthew A. Cherry, Florence Pugh, John David Washington, Eva Longoria, Zendaya and Awkwafina

If the 819 members accept the invites which will most probably be the case, agent members of the 2020 class will be allowed voting privileges at the upcoming Oscars. In an effort to make its members more diverse, 45% of the new members will be women and 36% are people of colour. International make-up is 49% from 68 countries.

This will not be the first time Nigerian filmmakers are making the Academy membership list. In 2018, actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Tinsel producer, Femi Odugbemi and UK-based producerSimon Onwurah were extended invites.

Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the 93rd Oscars will now hold on April 25, 2021, two months later than the initial February date.

Ozo Becomes Brand Manager for Juventus Academy Nigeria

Big Brother Naija Season 5 contestant, Ozo is known to be a man of sports and agility and finally all his activities towards becoming a sports personality is paying off big time.

Ozo recently announced on his socials, the new milestone in his career which he scored by becoming the Brand Manager for youth international youth sports academy, Juventus Academy Nigeria.

Juventus Academy Nigeria is located at Alma Beach Estate, Meadow Hall Way, Lekki Penninsula II, Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria and “aim to develop footballers through a vision which combines technical aspects with mental, emotional and interpersonal ones” via their official website.

This is milestone like no other, especially for Ozo, because being a brand manager involves more than promotion work on the internet as if he were a brand ambassador but actually involves working full-time round the clock and performing the major role of adapting strategic plans for the company’s target market which is the youths of Nigeria advancement in football from a young age or as early as possible, especially the ones at their grasp in Lagos.

Ozo announced his involvement with the company through a post on his socials where he his spotted wearing the Juventus football club jersey.

Bruno Mars: “If you don’t release music, you can’t loose any Grammys”

Singer and instrumentalist, Peter Gene Hernandez, popularly known by his artist name, Bruno Mars joined the #ThinkAboutIt Challenge over 3 months after it originated.

Via an Instagram post, he funnily decided to air out opinions on why an artist won’t be considered for the prestigious GRAMMYs Awards.

The musician alongside a host of other were not nominated for the 2021 GRAMMYs and this is what he had to say about it: ““If you don’t release music, you can’t loose any Grammys”, giving fans an hint on why he was not considered for next year Grammy Awards.

This hilarious comments is probably aimed at artist who complained of being snubbed by the Recording Academy, Grammy Awards.

Bruno Mars won 7 awards at 2018 Grammy Awards for his excellent job on “24K Magic” which took his total to 11 Grammy Awards.

Music Producer, Pheelz to Drop Debut EP Next Year

Very well known music producer, Pheelz aka Pheelz on the beat held an interactive session with fans in form of question and answer on his Twitter page through which fans can get to know him better using the hashtag – #Askpheelz.

Pheelz who is mostly known for his production credits on various YBNL boss’s songs, Olamide and his very catchy producer tag ryhtm and cool and young (quite misplaced for riddim makulayor) also has production credits for various top Nigerian artistes like Adekunle Gold, Vector, Fireboy DML, DRB Lasgidi etc. got questioned on various subjects by fans, one of which was: “what’s your favourite production so far?”

Pheelz response was so unexpected, he said: “My Ep !!! Next year will be really interesting”

In other Pheelz related news, he revealed in the Q&A held that he and BBN’s winner, Laycon, have songs together, even posting a photo of them together in the studio.
