Entertainer, Folarin Falana aka Falz, has urged the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandede, to reconsider the terms of punishment meted out to five female officers of the Service, The PUNCH reports.

In a letter dated May 15, 2020, and directed to Babandede, the son of the Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana, said the current inter-state lockdown in place in the country would not make it possible for the officers to resume at the places they were redeployed to.

The PUNCH reports that the Service transferred the five officers to Borno, Yobe, Kano and other States far away from their current duty posts for participating in a social media competition known as #Bopdaddy challenge, initiated by Falz.

The affected officers are Priscilla Irabor (NIS NO. 38549), Binti Attabor (NIS NO. 38130), Catherine Bakura (NIS NO. 38152), Blessing Udida (NIS NO. 38002) and Ockiya Eneni (NIS NO. 37804).

In a letter titled, “Punitive Posting of the five Immigration Officers involved in the online viral video for the Bop Daddy challenge’, Falz said, “Recent news surrounding five female officers of yours who came under fire for featuring in a fun video online has particularly caught my attention.

“The said ladies were pictured changing from their official uniforms into casual outfits while my music was playing in the background.

“‘Immoral behaviour’ ‘Sabotage’ & ‘Any other act unbecoming of a public officer’ were the offences levelled against them as they were alleged to have caused ‘a lot of embarrassment to the NIS.’

“Consequently, I have also learnt that the Service has decided to post these officers to remote areas of the country as a punitive measure. The Senior Staff Posting Order dated 12th May 2020 stated that the posting be ‘at no cost to the service’ and be done ‘on or before 19th May 2020’.

“As a terribly concerned citizen, I am writing to you a second time as my initial attempt to reach you via text/WhatsApp was met with no response.

“The Public Service Rules which guide the operations of the Immigration Service state that any senior officer seeking to be posted or transferred must submit an application for such transfer listing his or her reasons for desiring such transfer. (Chapter 2 Rule 020503)

“The Public Service Rules also state that ‘Officers on posting, transfer or on assumption of duty on new appointment at their new station, different from their city/town of domicile shall be entitled to transport fare for self… In addition, they shall be eligible for hotel accommodation for the first 28 days or an allowance for the first 28 days in lieu of hotel accommodation’. (Chapter 13 Rule 130105)

“Had the posting been in order, the seven-day time frame accorded the officers would have been an impossible one as inter-state travel is currently prohibited.

“In the light of the above, I respectfully request that you further reconsider the decision to post these officers.

“It is important that we continue to breed a strong sense of solidarity particularly during these trying times. Hopefully, we can defeat this pandemic together.”

American superstar rapper, Nicki Minaj, shares the same sentiments as myriads of Wizkid fans and well-wishers worldwide, in that she concurs to the argument the trendsetting crossover record-breaking single from Wizkid’s 2020 released “Made In Lagos” album, Essence should be in the conversation for the coveted “Record of the Year” plaque at this year’s Grammy Awards.

Although “Essence” did not receive the much desired nomination in the category for “Record of the Year” at the 2022 Grammy Awards, it did get a nod for Best Global Music Performance, the first of its kind.

Irrespective of the snub, Nicki whilie on Joe Budden TV (YouTube) as a guest on the special episode tagged A Conversation With Nicki Minaj & Joe Budden agreed with the host (Joe Budden) when he said “We need people on the Grammy board that know that “Essence” was song of the year” with an exclamatory “Right! Right!” response. She even proffered, “We should have our own Grammy Board“, in support of many and the popular believe that Black Americans or black artistes in general are always stereotyped to a particular category at the award show, if indeed they made it to the top categories, they barely win; Nicki Minaj does not have a Grammy Award herself and that is still a shock to many, especially when considering her refined catalogue of music.
