Jonzing World newest artist, debuts his solo single, self-tiled—Ruger— on which he practically tells the world what he is about. “Ruger is da lockdown, Ruger is da pandemic” he says at the end of the second verse. “Violation when me step into your hood” he begins the other, “Me or the rest, you choose” he warns on the next stanza.

Ruger is a Pop infused reggae (vibes) track which has Ruger flexing his ability to outperform any competition in the music industry and basically sends the message that he (Ruger) is in the game for the long run.

Pheelz releases debut EP – ‘Hear Me Out’ (first listen review)

Nigerian producer extraordinaire, Pheelz aka Pheelzonthebeat, known for his riddim-ma-cool-la-yor tag releases his debut EP as promised and trust me, it is definitely work the worth. The EP has the title—Hear Me Out.

Cover artwork for Hear Me Out EP.

On reasons behind choosing Hear Me Out as the title for his debut project, Pheelz (born Phillip Kayode Moses) explains, the world has heard his beats, his sound, now is the time for the world to hear the voice behind the Rii tag

Hear Me Out is filled with five songs that is sung across different genre of music but Pop as their foundation sound. ‘Wayward Girl’ blends Pop with Afrobeat (Afro-Pop if you may); ‘Somebody’ mixes electronic with Pop; ‘La Vida’ brings back the Afro-Pop vibes; on ‘One Life’, Pheelz visits the surging Amapiano sound from South Africa; with ‘Many Men’ Pheelz explores the Carribean-born Reggae sound.

Tracklist and credits for Hear Me Out EP.

While keeping the lyrics cordial, sensual and carefree according to the subject matter of each song, Pheelz really did an excellent job on his debut project, not forgetting the fact he did all this without features, even making it more impressive.

Another impressive feat, Pheelz accomplished apart from being the sole and only producer on his debut project, he also stands as the sole songwriter on Hear Me Out (according to credits).

Probably if I could change or add anything as a suggestion, it would come on the second track – ‘Somebody’. I would have loved to hear more of the electronic production, instead of Pheelz who opt to add the electronic guitar instrumentation majorly at the beginning of the track and to close it.

Nigeria Afrobeat and Pop, coined into Afro-Pop phenom, David Adeleke, known worldwide as Davido makes the grand list for the 2021 TIME100 NEXT by Time Magazine.

Speaking on what Davido has achieved so far in his career, Laycon who gave the speech translated into written words, said: “You can tell Davido puts 100% into every song he makes. And the results are clear . . . Afrobeats is a worldwide phenomenon, and Davido is one of many Nigerian artists who has made that possible.” “By bringing Afrobeats to the global stage, he’s paved the way for people like me.” Laycon concluded

Davido continue to soar as one of the few Nigerian artistes to have gone global yet stuck to their roots. Like the piece from Time Magazine says, “the results are clear”; one of Davido’s latest achievement is having his 2017 released smash-hit—“If”— achieve Gold status in the U.S i.e. the record has sold a cumulative over 500,000 units or its equivalent in streams.

Although Davido did not make the “ARTISTS” cut on the ‘2021 TIME100 NEXT’, he got inducted through the ‘PHENOMS’ category for his role in making Afrobeat a global genre of music enjoyed by a vast array of music listeners.

Other Nigerians to make this year’s list are: FK Abudu, Odunayo Eweniyi and Damiliola Odufuwa under the ‘ADVOCATES’ category for the role they played during the #EndSARS protest; Flutterwave CEO, Olugbenga Agboola for being one of the breakout and outstanding ‘INNOVATORS’ in 2020 and Nigerian-American writer, Ijeoma Oluo made the ‘ADVOCATES’ list.
