“Agriculture is something I’m really fascinated about” — Joeboy

Published

on

Nigerian Afro-Pop singer, Joeboy in a recent cover for Schick Magazine, spoke on his musical career and other aspects of his life. When asked what other career paths interest him the most, as we are still in a pandemic affected world, and music can be quite unncertain, changing with the flow, Joeboy’s response might come as a shock to many (myself included).

“In life you always have to evolve, although music is my safe space” Joeboy notes, continuing on the other businesses choice that catches his eyes, he notes he might be branching into Tech or Agriculture. Adding: “Agriculture is something I’m really fascinated about, although it might come across as boring but it’s a lucrative field. Agriculture produces food and people never stop eating, food will remain relevant as long as humans still exist.” A fine response indeed!

“Even though the country dun tire me / I dey catch cruise, Eko Miami” LadiPoe starts by juxtaposing his feelings toward the present state of Nigeria on “Running”, his second single of the year but first and lead single for his debut EP—”Providence”—set to drop next month, he and Fireboy peacefully let listeners into their mind state on this new song.

“There’s no time, there’s no energy / I’m just running, running, running / Sweet white wine cause there’s no Hennessy / I’m just running, running on vibes” Fireboy opens the song, stressing he isn’t paying any attention to bad energy and unprofitable dealings, rather choosing to focus on the bright light despite the dark spots around. LadiPoe would takeover with his rap verse, the opening lines are stated above, continuing he used clever punchlines and metaphors to express the amount he’s willing to pay for things to get better, a serene world that is.

Running is produced by Andrevibez (same as “Feeling”). It is an introspective perspective of the world LadiPoe and Fireboy DML find themselves in. Fireboy takes the chorus and has the luxury of a verse to his name, leading to LadiPoe’s second verse.

I don’t have to wear Ankara to show that I’m African – Wizkid on his fashion style

Published

on

Ayodeji Balogun, Wizkid as he is popularly known, is famous mostly for his music which has crossed boarders and certified him a global music star, not just ‘a Nigerian/an African’ artiste. One thing Wizkid is easily recognised by is his ever glowing fashion style, looking dapper in every shot. Speaking with Complex, he says he defines his fashion on what makes him feel comfortable and fly, not based on the perceived notion that as an artiste from Africa, he has to represent by publicly wearing the Ankara clothing whenever he wants to make a fashion statement.

The interviewer asked “I feel like for you to be an Afrobeat artite but then you are also global. . .it’s not like you’re wearing Ankara prints, you’re not loudly African but your accent is African. Is that intentional?” Wizkid explains his view on fashion choice and clothing thereafter, he replies “Yeah of course man, I’m African in my heart, so I’m African enough. I don’t have to put together an ‘Afro’ Ankara or whatever to show you that I’m African. It’s in my blood. That’s intentional.”

Wizkid also revealed that his presence and participation at the 2018 Milan Fashion Week was not his initial choice as he was “forced” to do it by fashion icon and model, Naomi Campbell; Wizkid would eventually agree to do it, walking down the Dolce & Gabbana Runway with “big sis” Naomi Campbell. He further explains that fashion shows are not his thing, even though he likes to look fly.
