Game of Thrones
is known for its complex history and character plots, so it’s easy for
fans to sometimes get lost in all the details.
But if you watch closely,
it seems that even the tiniest details might be there for a reason—and
possibly foreshadow major moments to come. At least that’s the argument
that one fan is now making when it comes to the names of the Stark kids’
direwolves, and how they might have been hidden spoilers all along.
According to Redditor RidgeRomaSergey,
the name of each Stark child’s direwolf predicts the character’s fate.
For instance, Jon Snow’s direwolf is named Ghost, which mirrors Jon’s
own life-and-death (and life again) journey. Sansa Stark’s pup was named
Lady, and now Sansa is literally the Lady of Winterfell. Robb Stark—who
was killed by the Freys, who have the colour grey in their house
sigil—had a direwolf named Grey Wind.
While these fates have come to fruition, the theorist claims that since Arya Stark’s direwolf Nymeria
is named after the Princess of the Rhoynar—who is remembered as a
warrior queen—Arya will be victorious and possibly win the Iron Throne.
Though it’s been proven that Nymeria wasn’t in battle, she was a
powerful leader. And as for Bran Stark’s direwolf Summer: this could
suggest that the youngest living Stark will be the key to defeating the Night King in the final season, bringing summer back to the North.
The theory is surprisingly convincing, though it could just be coincidental. But considering that Game of Thrones’s visual effects supervisor Joe Bauer has already confirmed that Ghost will return in season 8—and that he’ll do “some pretty cool things”—we can’t totally dismiss this idea yet.
